Netflix will bring the next chapter of its immensely successful show (Season 3 is currently third in All-Time Favorite TV English-Language shows on the service) on May 27th. We are using the word chapter rather than a season because Stranger Things Season 4 will come as a two-parter. The first “half” of the nine-episode run will arrive in May, the second will finish the season in early July. For that reason, we should not expect Stranger Things to break Bridgerton’s records, but numbers for trailer views on YouTube suggest that fans are very, very happy about the news.
What else is popular? HBO is gaining traction on We Own This City, a crime show about crooked cops, that looks like the continuation of the famous title The Wire. It won’t be a crowd-pleaser, despite star-studded casting, but numbers suggest there is a significant buzz surrounding the show. You can find Senior Year in the top ten for this week as well, a new comedy starring Rebel Wilson as a high school cheerleader who suddenly wakes up after twenty years of coma and decides to get back to her life as a popular teen in a body of a thirty-something woman. It could be a hit for Netflix as well as 365 Days: This Day. Remember 365 Days? Polish erotic thriller that captivated the world in 2020. Now it is back and it’s already breaking the internet ahead of its April 27th premiere.
Those are movies and shows with potential. But don’t mistake the buzz for box office success. We all remember Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets or Moonfall leading the charts only to flop in the theaters. Moonfall is already on TVOD in selected regions, but even in living rooms around the world, Roland Emmerich’s latest apocalypse isn’t loud enough to justify itself.
