The most expensive Netflix movie yet (estimated budget is between 150 and 200 million US dollars) presents an adventure that brings together the FBI's top profiler and two rival criminals, there's no telling what will happen. But we very well knew what is going to happen because when you take the top three most bankable movie stars in their segments, you are producing a big hit, no matter what Rotten Tomatoes are saying.
Netflix even released Red Notice in movie theatres one week prior to the VOD release. It made $1.25–1.5 million from 750 theatres in its opening weekend. Netflix's global film chief Scott Stuber stated that to be considered successful, Red Notice needs at least 70 million viewers in the first 28 days of release. For comparison, Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction, the most successful Netflix movie yet, accumulated 99 million viewers in that time frame.
Red Notice debuted at number one in 88 markets, with one notable exception: New Zealand preferred rom-com Love Hard. Everywhere else, Red Notice jumped right to the top and it will probably stay there for a while. Only time will tell if this star-power juggernaut will be the new all-time number one for Netflix.
