Lovers & Murderers

Movie | Czech Republic | 12/09/2004 | Drama | Cry movie
Lovers & Murderers is about the ongoing war between those who have and those who want to have what the others have. The have-nots see themselves as poor victims trying to get for themselves what is justly theirs. But when the have-nots become haves, they continue to see themselves as victims of the hordes baying for what is justly theirs, and they have neither the energy nor the security to enjoy what they have obtained. The movie takes place in the microcosm of a small apartment building. The principal goal of the young people who share rooms in the building is to move into their own room and, some day, a real apartment. They scheme to get what they're after: form short-lived alliances, petition, frighten, marry, become pregnant, anything that might work. Lovers & Murderers presents Páral's vision of mankind caught in a cyclical process in which ideology pales before the pettiness, cruelty, and self-justification of human nature.

Expulsion from Paradise

Movie | Czech Republic | 04/19/2001 | Drama | Satira
Philosophical movie, staged at the least philosophical environment imaginable: A closed scenery of a nudist spot, where some hired Czech stuff is making a plain erotic movie for a rich Russian producer. Nothing in this movie is what it seems to be at the first superficial glance.

Post Coitum

Movie | Czech Republic | 05/19/2004 | Drama | sex
Sexual drama from the man they call the Czech Fellini, Juraj Jakubisco. Never one to shy away from controversy, Jakubisco presents this highly-sexualised web of interweaving stories and characters. The tousled web includes Sabrina, her boss Zikmund and his partner Viola, the pleasure seeking ageing hippy photographer Bakchus, the naive Jarouska and his wife, the barmaid Messalina, the confused virgin Kristyna, the cynical med student and part time prostitute Kleopatra and the rocker, Adam. Each is living out a different little drama but theyre all connected and theyre all sexual. The film examines the aftermath of fun - the resounding consequences for others and ourselves, of careless sexual actions. Also poignantly touched upon is the resulting emptiness of finding that the short term kicks of a free and easy sexual lifestyle doesnt do anything but exacerbate the emptiness we use it to dispel.
