All of Us Are Dead was an anticipated title, some even expected it to be a new Squid Game. Adaptation of 2011’s webtoon was announced in 2020 and it is a part of Netflix’s Asian offensive with many more movies and shows coming in 2022. Reviews are mostly positive and talk about the huge binge potential of the first season 12 episode run. But zombies had serious competition in the new reality show I am Georgina, miniseries The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (now THAT is a mouthful), or a crime drama In From the Cold.
The fragmented menu of this weekend’s offerings on Netflix caused the win of the South Korean zombie show because other titles targeted a much more specific demographic. I am Georgina took the hearts of South American audiences as they follow the everyday life of Cristiano Ronaldo’s wife Georgina in this reality show. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window with Kirsten Bell is a smart play on almost every “lonely woman solves the crime” thriller released in the last five years. Is it serious? Is it a comedy? According to reviews, it falls somewhere in between. Maybe that’s why the audience is slower to pick up this one. The same with the Cold War spy drama In From the Cold, clearly engineered for a more adult audience. These titles always take a bit of time to climb the chart. Meanwhile, Ozark got bumped to number 5, and Too Hot To Handle Season 3 only managed number 7. Not too hot anymore?
Disney+ and HBO were business as usual, with Euphoria and Book of Boba Fett sitting at the very top of their charts.
